Quetzalcoatl, the Plumed Serpent. His name joins the Nahuatl words quetzal (a plumed bird) and coatl (serpent). Feathered-serpent imagery appears in Mexico as early as the 3rd century at Teotihuacan, and he remained one of the great deities of ancient Mexico for more than a thousand years.
The Mexica honored him as a creator of humankind, a lord of wind and rain, the morning star Venus, and a patron of learning, the arts and priests. In myth he descended into Mictlan, the underworld, to recover the bones from which humanity was made anew, and a giant red ant led him to the hidden grain that became maize. The Maya knew him as Kukulcan.
Printed on a soft, lightweight 100% Airlume combed and ring-spun cotton tee (heather colors are a cotton blend) with a retail fit, ribbed collar, shoulder tape and tear-away label. Original art by Aztlan Design.
